Fictional Writing

Within this section, you will find some (not all) of my fictional pieces (Declan the Dragon has a dedicated page). As I progress as a writer, I will share more.

Nano-Fiction

Nano-fiction is a term commonly used to refer to various types of micro-fiction or very short writing, including those that fit the constraints of the website Twitter. Below you will find some examples of nano-fiction between the ‘six-words’ above and the ‘100 word Drabbles’ further down:

— Brief Synopsis: When Ford Prefect needs a car, there’s one clear choice.

— Brief Synopsis: Jim finds out at the wrong moment, that his wife knows what he’s been up to.

— Brief Synopsis: Cutting cards isn’t always civil.

Drabbles (100 Words Exactly)

A ‘Drabble’ is a story of exactly 100 words (not including the title). The form is short, but this does not mean you can skimp on the basics of a good story. It should have a start, middle, and finish, and include conflict and resolution … In here, I will drop some of my efforts:

The following drabbles have been published and therefore are not shown on here. Copies can be found via the links provided:

DRAMA/COMEDY: Festive Forebodings: Published in ‘All I want for Christmas’ – https://www.amazon.co.uk/~/e/B085NKJHJ4

DRAMA: In the Night: Published in ‘Just Another Minute’ – https://www.amazon.co.uk/~/e/B085NKJHJ4

Flash Fiction

Flash fiction is generally used as an umbrella term that refers to super short fiction of 1,000 words or less, but still provides a compelling story with a plot (beginning, middle, and end), character development, and usually a twist or surprise ending. The exact length of flash fiction isn’t set, but is determined by the publisher. Below you will find some examples of micro-fiction between the ‘100 word Drabbles’ above and the ‘Short Stories’ further down:

— Brief Synopsis: With imposed prohibition, secrecy was paramount. Capone relies on individuals with unique skill sets to ensure mouths stay shut.

— Brief Synopsis: Alice’s luck seems to be never ending until her close friend Simon finds a unique solution to her problem.

— Brief Synopsis: A broken man, learns to overcome restrictions and ride again with a little squaddie ingenuity.

— Brief Synopsis: Lost and alone, Declan the Dragon feels unwanted until he happens on a village in need of help.

— Brief Synopsis: Like The Beast for the East, they come breezing through.

— Brief Synopsis: Sometimes plants require a special blend of fertiliser.

— Brief Synopsis: Unsuspecting sun worshippers get more than they bargained for.

Short Stories

Short stories fall in the range of about 1,000 to 7,499 words. Due to their brevity, the narrative in a short story is condensed, usually only focusing on a single incident and a few characters at most … I will post a few of my pieces in here:

— Brief Synopsis: When a couple enters Lorna’s village cafe, a familiarity deep within her stirs. Conflicted, she must face her fears and the risk of heartbreak a second time.

— Brief Synopsis: When Lieutenant Williams receives a puzzling communication from HQ, his day is about to turn upside down. Will he respond to his base instincts for revenge?

— Brief Synopsis: When Commander Travis is tasked to remove the leader of a cartel on their homeworld he believes he’s ready for anything that can be thrown at him.

— Brief Synopsis: During his voyage home, Odysseus finds himself in Buckingham palace leading to confusion all around.

— Brief Synopsis: Following years of domestic abuse, Colin has a plan, but an alternative escape plan presents itself.

Novellas

A novella is a typical description for a work of fiction between 20,000 and 49,999 words. Once a work reaches circa 50,000 words, it is generally considered a novel, however, as a standard novel is expected to be 80,000+ words, anything between 50,000 and 79,999 may be seen as a short novel or extended novella … I will post a few of my pieces in here as they reach maturity/publication:

URBAN FANTASY: IMP – Casualties of War – Currently a Work In Progress!!

— Brief Synopsis: During the American civil war, the last remnants of the Confederate rebels are under siege. What lies in the dungeon of their stronghold, however, is not Confederate. It’s not even human.
